The only rule I have posted in my classroom is "Do the right thing." I challenge my students to take responsibility for their actions and make the choice to do the right thing (based on Teaching with Love and Logic by Jim Fay and David Funk). Students are expected to come prepared for music with good attitudes and an open mind. Students will be asked to take hands for folk dances, etc. and I expect all students to treat each other with love and respect. I strive to create a close-knit community in my classroom.
A note on recorders...
Students begin playing recorder in 3rd grade and continue through 5th grade. The first recorder is provided by the school in 3rd grade, and students are expected to keep it for the remainder of their time at MES. If lost, the cost is $5 for a new recorder. Students also need to provide a folder to put music in. Recorders and folders will remain in the music classroom unless a student requests to bring the recorder home to practice. However, he/she must bring the recorder back before the next music class or students will lose the privilege of bringing home their recorder for the semester.
